The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was convicted of plotting a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the detention, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who holds office as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on social media on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the judge's determination was the chance of Bolsonaro's "relocation to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the probes revealed a background of arranging to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of heading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a plot which involved plans to assassinate his opponent and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was prevented because it didn't receive the backing of the military leaders. His successor was inaugurated without issue on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, many Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed official structures in the capital, the capital city.

The law enforcement stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.

He was also barred from running for public office until 2060 - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The one-time head of state called the court case a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the next presidential race.
